Energetic Curve Line

Skateboarding has officially debuted as an Olympic sport at the Olympic Games in 2021, inspiring the creation of a skateboarding theme park designed with vibrant colors and dynamic curves.

Brief

Energetic Curve Line is a vibrant skateboarding theme park designed with dynamic curves and bold colors. Inspired by the sport's inclusion in the 2016 Olympics, the park caters to the growing demand for skateboarding venues. It features three sections with varying difficulty levels, heights, and facilities to accommodate different skill levels. At both the entrance and exit, there are adaptable areas for beginners and experienced skaters, all connected by winding paths. The park includes essential amenities like skateboard rentals, pads, shaded porches, public toilets, and abundant green spaces, creating a welcoming environment for skaters.

Problems

In the 21st century, young people have become increasingly dependent on electronic devices, are under significant academic pressure, have fewer social connections, and are consuming more junk food, leading to obesity and a less active lifestyle. Since skateboarding became an official Olympic sport in 2016, the demand for skateboarding venues has been steadily growing.

Goals

1. Designing a skateboard theme park with different difficulty levels to meet various needs.

2. Combine at least 50% of the theme park area with vegetation.

Site Analysis

Kawasaki, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, is part of the Greater Tokyo Area and the 8th most populous city, with a density of 10,000 people per km². Maruko Square, along the Tama River, manages floodwater and hosts public activities.

The site is located by the Kanagawa River and is surrounded by numerous schools. During site research, many students are often seen playing in the area, and school events are frequently held here.

Research

Unlike organized sports such as basketball or football, skateboarding has no fixed arena or rules, and skateparks follow no standard design template. Each skatepark is uniquely designed to offer specific challenges to its users. However, there are three main categories of skatepark design: bowl, street plaza, and flow parks.

Masterplan

I would like to design an outdoor park with a skateboarding theme, where visitors can enter through a main entrance and follow different paths, progressing from beginner warm-up areas to more advanced, skill-based zones.

Final Perspectives

Reflection

I considered this project to be the most interesting one during my bachelor's degree. I spent a lot of time on research, illustration style and modeling. One challenge I faced was that I couldn’t visit the site in person; instead, I had to search various platforms to conduct the site analysis, which turned out well. In the future, I plan to focus more on each part of the skateboard zone and create a guide map for people to navigate. I also want to combine different design styles, such as pop art and street art elements.
